New York City travel guide: Central Park, Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, the High Line, museums, observation decks, the subway and neighborhood tips.

New York is the city everyone feels they already know from movies, and it still manages to surprise. Start in Manhattan: walk through Central Park, which is bigger than the principality of Monaco, admire the Art Deco towers of Midtown, and feel the neon buzz of Times Square at night.

Walk the High Line, a park built on an old elevated railway, from the Meatpacking District to Hudson Yards. Spend a morning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art or MoMA, pay your respects at the 9/11 Memorial, and watch the sunset from one of the observation decks.

Then cross the Brooklyn Bridge, opened in 1883, on foot. In Brooklyn, DUMBO frames the Manhattan Bridge between old brick buildings, and neighborhoods like Williamsburg are full of cafés, vintage shops and live music. Eat a classic slice of pizza, a bagel with cream cheese and a pastrami sandwich.
